ISPA Coastal Navigator and Coastal Skipper Sail

Coastal Navigator - Ultra Sailing school

When students master the basic techniques of sailing and navigation and get their first experiences of independent sailing with their Day skipper certificate, they are ready for the next steps.

The Coastal levels will provide key knowledge and techniques to achieve better competency to safely navigate your boat on long coastal passages, including night navigation.

These courses pay specific attention to passage planning, navigation and advanced knowledge of all navigational aids used to safely navigate the boat in unfamiliar waters.

  • Participants entering with Day skipper level will participate as crew and will validate the Coastal Navigator level after the course.
  • Participants entering with coastal navigator level will be able to train for Coastal skipper and simulate taking the responsibility of the crew and boat. If they successfully fulfill all requirements, they will get the Non-tidal Coastal skipper certificate. If the instructor evaluates that the level is not successfully completed yet, students will be oriented towards targeted further learning.

This 5,5 day course is designed for 4 or max. 5 attendants which will sleep on the boat every night on a different spot on the Dalmatian islands. The program is not rigid as it will be adapted according to the weather forecast, learning requirements and destinations. Every day the route will be planned for 30 to 50 Nautical Miles, when winds allow, making it also a great Mile building opportunity.

Individual briefings take place every day after the program to discuss every situation in further detail so that students understand in depth the decision-making processes at stake.
